SNS proposes criminal liability from age 13

The coalition Slovak National Party is proposing to lower the age of criminal liability to 13. In individual cases, according to the proposal, criminal liability could be assessed from as young as 12. This was announced on Friday by SNS chairman Andrej Danko in reaction to an incident in Veľká Lomnica in the Kežmarok district. ekonomika.pravda.sk ↗

Danko condemned the incident and stated that violent events are increasing. He wants to push the proposal for a change in legislation through parliament, and plans to discuss its form with the coalition parties. SNS thus wants to open a debate on the age limit from which a child can face the legal consequences of their actions. hnonline.sk ↗

The SNS chairman justifies his proposal partly on the grounds that, in his view, young people mature at a younger age than in the past thanks to technology. He also proceeds from the conviction that serious cases should be assessed even for perpetrators who have not yet reached the current age threshold for criminal liability. teraz.sk ↗

Details of the proposal, as well as the specific wording of the legislation being prepared, have not yet been made public. Further steps will depend on negotiations between SNS and the other coalition parties and on whether a political agreement on changing the rules can be reached. STVR (Minúta po minúte) ↗
