Cristiano Ronaldo announced that he will not end his tenure with the Portuguese national team despite leaving the camp early. The 41-year-old captain stated that he wants to continue representing the team, though he also claims that coach Jorge Jesus broke his promise twice. idnes.cz ↗
In his statement, Ronaldo explained that his departure was driven by a breakdown of trust between him and the coach. According to his words, he decided to publicly clarify the circumstances surrounding the last national team camp. He apologized to his teammates and admitted that he bears responsibility for his decision. sport.sk ↗
The Portuguese forward also stated that he is prepared to accept punishment for leaving the team. The disciplinary proceedings may affect his return to the squad, but he does not want to end his national team career itself. After serving his punishment, he remains ready to play for Portugal again. BBC News ↗
Jorge Jesus had already left the door open for Ronaldo's return to the national team and described the situation as a misunderstanding. However, following his latest statement, Ronaldo said he no longer has trust in the coach. Further developments will therefore depend on resolving the dispute between the captain and the coach, as well as on any potential disciplinary punishment. Die Zeit ↗
