Pinheiro Braathen was already the fastest in the first run. He led Meillard by 24 hundredths of a second and maintained his advantage in the final runs as well. The Olympic champion entered the season in line with his ambitions, as he also wants to contend for the overall World Cup title. In the opening race, he also confirmed his position as defending champion of the small crystal globe for giant slalom. Tagesspiegel ↗
Slovak representatives Andreas and Adam Žampa failed to advance to the second run. Andreas finished 52nd, 2.69 seconds behind the leader, while Adam finished 63rd. For both, the giant slalom season thus started without any points gained. SITA ↗
