Footballers of Spanish club Rayo Vallecano won the first Conference League quarterfinal match against Greek side AEK Athens by a high score of 3:0. The match was played at Vallecano's home stadium, which thus entered the quarterfinals promisingly and has its progress to the semifinals virtually secured. The decisive goals came already in the first half, when Ilias Akhomach and Unai López scored, giving the Spanish team a very advantageous position ahead of the return leg in Greece. sport.cz - fotbal ↗ idnes.cz ↗
Vallecano's win also has a positive impact on the Czech football coefficient. AEK Athens is in fact the last cup representative of Greece that could still threaten the Czech Republic's position in 10th place in the European coefficient. With the defeat to Vallecano, the Greek club's chances of progressing have significantly diminished, which benefits Czech football. Alongside its progress to the semifinals, Vallecano has thus also brought the Czech national team closer to its goal of maintaining a better position in the pan-European ranking. sport.sk ↗ sport.pravda.sk ↗
The second quarterfinal match will be played in Athens, where progress to the Conference League semifinals will be decided. However, Vallecano's decisive win in the first match makes the Spanish team the strong favorite to advance to the next round. isport.cz ↗
