Tyler Robinson, a 23-year-old man charged with the murder of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk, will stand trial. A judge in the U.S. state of Utah ruled that the prosecution presented enough evidence to proceed with the case and may seek the death penalty. seznamzpravy.cz ↗
Robinson is charged with aggravated murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Kirk, which occurred in September 2025 on a university campus in Utah. The defendant has pleaded not guilty. According to available information, the judge ruled after a several-hour hearing in the city of Provo. irozhlas.cz ↗
The prosecution claims that the case meets the conditions for the harshest punishment, because other people were also allegedly endangered during the attack. According to reports, the defense tried to prevent Robinson from facing the death penalty, but the court did not accept its arguments. American President Donald Trump also publicly commented on the harshest possible punishment for the defendant. idnes.cz ↗
Charlie Kirk was a prominent figure in the American conservative movement. The trial against Robinson will continue following the judge's decision, which allowed the case to move into the main trial phase. If Robinson is found guilty, the court may also decide on the death penalty. Spiegel.de ↗
