US President Donald Trump declared on Thursday that the United States will not use nuclear weapons against Iran, since it has no need to do so. Trump emphasized that Iran's capabilities had already been substantially weakened in the past. Despite this declaration, however, the president made clear that the US is in no hurry to end the conflict, while stating that Iran's "clock is already ticking," thereby creating an atmosphere of time pressure on the negotiations. hnonline.sk ↗ Novy Cas ↗
Within the broader context of the situation in the Middle East, Trump announced an extension of the truce between Israel and Lebanon by another three weeks. However, the talks between the US and Iran on ending the war have so far stalled. The Israeli and Lebanese sides thus gained time to continue their discussions. teraz.sk ↗ hnonline.sk ↗
Tension in the region was also reflected in the financial markets. Oil prices continued to rise on Friday, with Brent crude surpassing 105.50 dollars per barrel. Gold prices, by contrast, fell below 4,662 dollars per ounce, which investors attribute to heightened concerns about further escalation of tensions and the resulting inflation. At the same time, European Union officials signaled that they are prepared to strengthen their own security capacity should the United States distance itself from NATO. Europe is also focusing on stabilizing the situation in the Middle East and its security implications. ekonomika.sme.sk ↗ ekonomika.sme.sk ↗
