Ted Nugent claims he turned down drugs from Hendrix, Keith Moon, and Bon Scott

American rock guitarist Ted Nugent claims that in the past he was offered drugs by Jimi Hendrix, The Who drummer Keith Moon, and AC/DC singer Bon Scott. He revealed this in a live Facebook interview conducted with him by his son Rocco. Rolling Stone Germany republished the piece as an archive item on September 19 — it originally appeared in February 2021. Rolling Stone Germany ↗

By his own account, he always resisted temptation — and did so out of conviction. Since the seventies he has been known for strictly rejecting both drugs and alcohol, and Rolling Stone describes him as a formative figure of the straight edge movement — even though that movement only emerged in 1981 around the Washington hardcore scene and the band Minor Threat. He himself adds, however, that holding this stance is above all a matter of luck. Rolling Stone Germany ↗

On SuperMusic.cz, Nugent has two songs — Stranglehold and Cat Scratch Fever. You can find Bon Scott's repertoire, who died in 1980, there under AC/DC, with more than four hundred songs.

All three musicians Nugent names died young and in connection with addictive substances: Jimi Hendrix in 1970 at the age of twenty-seven, Keith Moon in 1978 at thirty-two, and Bon Scott in February 1980 at the age of thirty-three. Nugent is now seventy-seven and still performs live.
