Technical graduates expect the highest salaries

According to an analysis by the job portal Profesia, graduates of technical fields have the highest salary expectations among university graduates. The findings, published on Saturday, June 20, 2026, also show that young people's salary expectations after finishing their studies vary significantly by field of study. SITA ↗

The analysis compared graduates' expected salaries as well as whether they continue working in the field they studied after graduation. According to the published information, technical fields are at the top of the ranking not only in terms of salary demands, but also in terms of graduates remaining in their field. At the opposite end of the ranking are graduates of theology and pedagogy, who expect lower salaries. teraz.sk ↗

Sources point out that many students enter university with the idea that a diploma will automatically guarantee them an above-average income. However, the reality of the labor market is more complex, and graduates' salary expectations run up against what employers actually offer. Differences also appear between individual schools and fields, with some graduates going to work outside their specialization after finishing their studies. ekonomika.sme.sk ↗

The results suggest that the choice of field can affect not only starting salary expectations, but also the likelihood of continuing in the area originally studied. Further developments will depend on employer demand and on how the expectations of young job seekers on the labor market continue to evolve. Refresher.sk ↗
