Court overturned Branko Kišš's removal from police leadership

The Administrative Court in Bratislava on Thursday annulled the Interior Ministry's decision to dismiss former First Vice-President of the Police Force Branko Kišš. It returned the matter to the ministry for further proceedings. According to available information, the court declared the dismissal from office unlawful. aktuality.sk ↗

The decision concerns the step taken by Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok in October 2023, when Kišš was removed from police leadership. The Interior Ministry thus suffered another legal defeat in disputes linked to the so-called "čurillovci" (the Čurilla group). Several published reports describe the ruling as another victory for this group in court proceedings against the ministry's actions. zurnal.pravda.sk ↗

The court's decision does not mean the case is automatically and definitively resolved, since the matter is being returned to the ministry for further proceedings. The ministry will have to decide again on the course of action toward the former police official in accordance with the court's conclusions. Novy Cas ↗

The case fits into a broader series of disputes between the Interior Ministry, led by Matúš Šutaj Eštok, and the police officers referred to as the "čurillovci." Further developments will depend on the ministry's new course of action and on how it responds to the annulled decision. interez.sk ↗
