Spanish footballers recorded their first win at the 2026 World Cup on Sunday, June 21, defeating Saudi Arabia 4:0 in Atlanta. The reigning European champions thus made up for their opening stumble against Cape Verde and now have four points after two matches in Group H. teraz.sk ↗
Coach Luis de la Fuente's charges settled the match with a convincing performance. The goal barrage was opened by Lamine Yamal, who scored his first goal at a World Cup. Mikel Oyarzabal added two goals of his own, having found himself under criticism before the match following Spain's weaker start to the tournament. The 4:0 win represented a clear response from the Spanish team to the doubts raised after their previous stumble. sme.sk ↗
Ahead of the match, it was expected that Yamal could start in the first eleven, since Spain needed to give their all against Saudi Arabia. The result confirmed their offensive strength and also earned them the top position in the Group H table after two matches played. teraz.sk ↗
Spain will build on the performance from Atlanta as the group stage continues, a performance that brought them not only their first win of the tournament but also a better starting position in the fight for qualification.
