The Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday continues an extraordinary session, on whose agenda is a vote of no confidence in the government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. The debate began on Tuesday afternoon and is now in its second day. The motion was initiated by the opposition parties ODS, STAN, Piráti, TOP 09 and the Christian Democrats, which together have 92 deputies. forum24.cz ↗

The opposition wants the vote to call into question the further functioning of the cabinet formed by the ANO movement, SPD and Motoristé. Tuesday's debate in the Chamber of Deputies was significantly shaped by members of the government led by Prime Minister Babiš. On Wednesday, deputies are expected to continue the discussion and subsequently proceed to a decision on the motion. ct24.ceskatelevize.cz ↗

The extraordinary session is taking place just a few days before the municipal and Senate elections. Opposition parties are therefore also linking it to criticism of certain steps taken by the government and to an assessment of whether they comply with democratic rules or with the government's policy statement. lidovky.cz ↗

Political analyst Dvořáková stated that, in her view, the government is not at risk of losing the confidence vote. She described the session more as a pre-election gathering, while at the same time acknowledging that drawing attention to the government's controversial steps has its significance. irozhlas.cz ↗

The outcome of the vote will depend on the balance of votes in the Chamber of Deputies. Nothing in the course of the proceedings so far suggests that the government majority is breaking apart ahead of the vote.
