Rockit.it describes Yuppie Flu's new album Kings Without a Crown as the legacy of Matteo Agostinelli — a voice the magazine considers one of the defining ones of Italian indie. Agostinelli died seven months before the record's release; it was ultimately released by 42 Records. Rockit.it ↗
The band hadn't released an album in eighteen years, since the last reverb-soaked piano tones that closed the previous record. According to Rockit, Agostinelli was "a king without a crown, because he never let himself be dressed up in proclamations and advertising" — and at the same time a prince who brought indie to Italy with a radiant heart and turned the sound of Pavement into something of his own, gentler and more coastal. Yuppie Flu have been added on SuperMusic.cz; the lyrics for Our Nature, A Good Guide, and Better Than Ever are already available.
Yuppie Flu come from the Marche region and belong to the first wave of Italian bands who, since the nineties, have sung in English and aligned themselves with American lo-fi indie. Their previous albums Toast Masters and Days Before the Day remain reference records for the Italian scene to this day.
Yuppie Flu's latest album is a tribute to Matteo Agostinelli
