Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces serious accusations after the Israeli daily Haaretz revealed that the president of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed, personally warned him less than two weeks before the Hamas terrorist attack of October 7, 2023. According to an investigative finding by journalist Shlomi Eldar and Ruth Yuval, the prime minister received information about the impending attack but allegedly ignored it and took no action in response. Reports also suggest that Netanyahu concealed the information from Israeli intelligence services. hnonline.sk ↗ dennikn.sk ↗
Netanyahu and his office categorically rejected the accusation, denying that he had been warned in any way. The prime minister called the claims an "absolute lie." The United Arab Emirates declined to comment on the published information. Nevertheless, some former Israeli officials and opposition leaders claim to have seen the warning documents themselves. Former Israeli ambassador Nimrod Novik confirmed that he also has access to another warning that came from Egypt several days before the attack. STVR (Spravy) ↗ aktuality.sk ↗
The accusations come at a critical time, as Israel prepares for parliamentary elections and Netanyahu faces political pressure. Leaders of the Israeli opposition have called the prime minister unfit to hold his office and speak of betrayal and a security failure. Netanyahu also announced a lawsuit against the Haaretz daily for publishing a report that, according to him, constitutes false information. aktuality.sk ↗ teraz.sk ↗
