Hungarian government addressed EU funds and possible signals from the EU

At its Wednesday session, the Hungarian government discussed several measures, which were presented at a press briefing by spokespersons Anita Köböl and Éva Magyar. The topics concerned the environment, education, party financing, the labor market, an investigation at the Ministry of Defense, and issues related to the European Union. Telex ↗

Anita Köböl announced new environmental decisions. According to her, they are meant to protect the natural environment, review the waste management system, and tighten regulations for the battery industry. The government is also set to introduce a temporary moratorium on logging. The spokesperson also reported on the abolition of the current teacher performance evaluation system starting from the next school year, and on a revision of the electoral system of the National Chamber of Agriculture. On the question of European money, it was addressed whether amending the child protection law is a condition for obtaining funds from the European Union. According to Dávid Vitézy, amending this law is not a condition for the disbursement of 16.4 billion euros. Éva Magyar also responded to a question about whether the government had received a signal from the European Union regarding efforts to remove President Tamás Sulyok from office.
