The plane carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky nearly collided with a drone on Tuesday during departure from Moldova to Oslo. Zelensky was traveling to Norway for the funeral of King Harald V, which took place on Wednesday in the capital. aktuality.sk ↗
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated that the drone missed the plane only narrowly during takeoff. According to him, the incident highlights the security risks the Ukrainian president faces even during trips abroad. ta3.com ↗
Moldovan authorities announced that two drones had entered the country's airspace. The presidential plane's departure was therefore initially cancelled. Later, the plane carrying the Ukrainian delegation took off toward Norway. ekonomika.pravda.sk ↗
Zelensky attended the funeral ceremony for Harald V in Oslo. Members of several European royal families, heads of state, and thousands of residents gathered for the farewell. Harald V had been King of Norway for 35 years. Spiegel.de ↗
The security incident occurred at a time when Moldova was facing violations of its airspace by drones. Authorities did not immediately release further details about the drone's origin or any possible damage. The plane ultimately continued on its journey, and Zelensky made it to the funeral. We examined the discrepancy between the Norwegian government's accounts — the prime minister spoke of a near miss, finance minister Jens Stoltenberg of an attempted attack, and the prime minister's office softened it to a threat that delayed the flight — in a separate article based on Norwegian sources.
