Jürgen Klopp will lead the German national football team in a competitive match for the first time on Thursday. Germany will face the Netherlands in Amsterdam in the opening Nations League match, with kick-off scheduled for 20:45. Deutschlandfunk ↗
The new coach has promised the team a fresh approach and likened the start of his era to a derby. He did not reveal the line-up before the match. Under Klopp, the German side is expected to begin a rebuild after its unsuccessful showing at the World Cup. SITA ↗
Marc-André ter Stegen, who last played for the national team 15 months ago, is expected to return in goal. His return marks another significant change in the team. Klopp has also introduced new rules during the national team camp, including restrictions on mobile phones and visits to the hairdresser. Spiegel.de ↗
The German team's kit is also drawing attention. UEFA did not approve the originally planned green retro jersey, so the team will play in a black kit. It will also be Germany's last match in an Adidas kit, as Nike will take over from 2027. n-tv ↗
The opponent will be a team led by captain Virgil van Dijk, who knows Klopp from his time at Liverpool. Before the match, Dutch football will honour the late wife of former national team coach Ronald Koeman with a minute of silence. The result in Amsterdam will give the first competitive answer to how Klopp's changes play out on the pitch.
