French striker Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid suffered a muscle injury to his left thigh in Friday's Round 32 match of the Spanish league against Betis Sevilla. The player requested to be substituted before the end of the match, and it was subsequently confirmed that he has problems two months before the 2026 World Cup. However, the club's management did not provide exact information about the length of his absence. SITA ↗
Mbappé's participation in the upcoming El Clásico at Barcelona's stadium is therefore significantly complicated. Although the French talent has not yet been completely ruled out, Real Madrid is unlikely to take unnecessary risks with the World Cup approaching. The club must carefully consider the player's return to training activity. eurofotbal.cz ↗
Mbappé's injury adds another worry to the squad of the "white ballet." Defensive pillar Eder Militao will undergo surgery in Finland this week and will not return to action for five months, meaning he will also miss the summer 2026 World Cup. Another major loss is experienced right-back Dani Carvajal, who broke a toe and will miss at least two league matches, including precisely El Clásico. The thirty-four-year-old Carvajal could return only for the season's final match against Athletic Bilbao. teraz.sk ↗
These absences from the lineup significantly weaken Real Madrid's ambitions toward the end of the season, with the team currently sitting in second place in La Liga but trailing league-leading Barcelona in points. Madrid's mainstay will thus have to rely on the remaining players. At the same time, there is speculation about a possible return of José Mourinho to the club's bench, with his name being mentioned as a candidate for the coaching position. Meanwhile, Hansi Flick has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Barcelona following a successful season in which he won the championship title with the team. teraz.sk ↗
