Slafkovský delivers in the playoffs: a hat trick at the start, criticism, and a pointless fight with Hagel

Slovak forward Juraj Slafkovský delivered an exceptional performance for the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the NHL playoffs, scoring three goals against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the opening game and deciding his team's victory. He thus became the first player of this year's playoffs to score a hat trick. His performance was also acknowledged by coach Pavel Zedník, who noted that Slafkovský no longer overthinks and that one needs confidence for what he is doing. ta3.com ↗ SITA ↗

In the second game of the series, however, Slafkovský found himself at the center of attention for negative reasons. During the middle period, he got into a fight with Tampa forward Brandon Hagel. The fight proved costly for Montreal, as Slafkovský took a hard punch and ended up on the ice. He was given a five-minute penalty for the physical confrontation. This mistake proved decisive, as Tampa Bay subsequently scored and the game was decided only in overtime, with the home team winning 3:2. dennikn.sk ↗ SITA ↗

Slafkovský was criticized for needlessly engaging in physical confrontations as a forward. Journalists and experts criticized his decision to fight Hagel, pointing out that he is not good at it and that it was a very costly and unnecessary mistake. Montreal had originally led 2:1 after two periods, but during the final period and overtime, Tampa Bay turned the score around. Erik Černák, the Slovak defenseman for the Lightning, contributed to the game's outcome. The second loss meant that the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series is now tied 1:1 in games and moves to Canada. teraz.sk ↗ sme.sk ↗
