These personnel changes triggered an unprecedented protest in Slovak culture. Thousands of people took to the streets of Bratislava to demand the dismissal of Minister Šimkovičová. The protest was organized by the civic platform Otvorená kultúra (Open Culture) with the support of many figures from the cultural sphere. Calls of "Culture is not your fiefdom" and "Shame, resign" rang out at the event. Protesters also gathered outside the minister's apartment, where they expressed their discontent with whistling and drumming. sme.sk ↗ postoj.sk ↗

The dismissed key officials were among the long-serving heads of major cultural institutions. Šimkovičová's decision followed previous disputes surrounding the Arts Council, which had cancelled contracts with several entities. The culture minister responded to the protest by asking whether she should leave her post. In a television discussion, MP Dušan Jarjabek (Smer-SD) described the protests as political actions, while MP Zora Jaurová (PS) pointed out that Šimkovičová is also being criticized by part of the coalition behind the scenes. The situation in culture has become one of the central topics of political debate in the country. ta3.com ↗ hnonline.sk ↗
