Pospíšil scored after more than a year, but Calgary fell to Ottawa

Slovak hockey forward Martin Pospíšil scored his first goal of the current NHL season on Thursday night into Friday. In the Canadian derby match between Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators, he opened the scoring in the 18th minute, notching a goal after a break of more than a year. He had returned to the Flames' lineup after a two-game absence in the press box, having not played recently. It was precisely this absence that later meant he was not credited with a goal without having actually played. sport.sk ↗ sport.pravda.sk ↗

Despite Pospíšil's precise strike, it was not enough for Calgary to win. The Flames lost to Ottawa 1:4, and Pospíšil was his team's only scorer in the match. However, his goal represents a significant personal achievement – he became the eighth Slovak hockey player to score in the current NHL season. In recent months, Pospíšil has struggled with playing opportunities, so his accurate finish upon returning to active play represents a positive signal for his further development in the professional leagues.
