Likud Disputes Election Results, Netanyahu Fails to Secure a Majority

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party accused Arab political parties of "stealing" the parliamentary election and requested an investigation into alleged fraud. According to preliminary voting results, no political bloc secured a majority in the 120-seat Knesset. denik.cz ↗

Likud claims that Arab parties influenced the election outcome and submitted testimonies and evidence to the election commission. The party also called on the police and the Shin Bet security service to investigate alleged widespread election fraud and incidents of violence. After most of the votes were counted, the bloc of the current ruling coalition led by Netanyahu held a narrow lead. However, the preliminary result did not give right-wing parties a sufficient majority to easily form a government. Netanyahu declared that right-wing parties had won a decisive majority among Zionist voters and called for the formation of a national right-wing government. His political future, however, remains open, as the election was also seen as a vote on his continued tenure as prime minister.
