US President Donald Trump has chosen conservative political commentator Katie Zacharia as the new White House press secretary. She will replace Karoline Leavitt, who left the post at the end of August after the birth of her second child. The White House has confirmed her appointment. Onet Wiadomosci ↗
Zacharia is a former television commentator who supported Trump during his election campaign. She briefly served at the Department of Homeland Security, where she worked as a spokesperson during Kristi Noem's tenure. She currently serves as a communications adviser for Trump's platform Truth Social. BBC News ↗
Trump announced the choice via his social network Truth Social. The position of White House press secretary had been vacant for several weeks following Leavitt's departure. After taking office, Zacharia is expected to represent the president before the media and communicate the positions of his administration. Deutschlandfunk ↗
Zacharia stated that she views serving in the role as a significant honor. In her remarks, she mentioned serving President Trump and the American people in the year the United States marks the 250th anniversary of its founding. According to available statements, Trump describes her as a loyal ally and member of the MAGA movement. Le Monde ↗
Some reports initially stated that Zacharia had merely been offered the position, but Trump later announced her selection as a decision on the new spokesperson. She is expected to take up the role once the necessary administrative steps have been completed. RTE News ↗
