The Danube reached a new historic low at Devín near Bratislava. On Monday, October 5, the average daily flow measured there was 575.9 cubic meters per second, which is the lowest value since measurements began on this stretch of the river. ekonomika.pravda.sk ↗

Hydrological measurements at Devín have been carried out for more than 125 years. The current figure therefore surpassed the previous record and showed a significant decline in the flow of one of Europe's largest rivers. Another measurement states that record-tracking at the station has been running since 1900, meaning 117 years according to the time comparison used. tnlive.sk (Markíza) ↗

The low level of the Danube is related to the drought that has affected the Slovak section of the river. Hydrological stations recorded values that had not appeared in the history of measurements to date. The record concerns the average daily flow, not a single instantaneous measurement. Refresher.sk ↗

The new minimum was recorded during a period when the Danube's water level dropped unusually low at several locations. Available data do not yet indicate how long this situation will last or whether the river will reach further record-low values in the coming days. Developments will depend on further hydrological measurements and the amount of rainfall in the Danube basin.
