HC Slovan Bratislava is still weighing entry into the Czech ice hockey Extraliga. According to the latest information, there is talk behind the scenes of genuine interest from the club, with negotiations with the Czech side expected to begin at the end of September. SITA ↗
A possible presence of Slovan in the Czech competition has the support of several clubs. According to reports in the media, the top ten teams of the top Czech league have no fundamental problem with the Bratislava team's arrival. However, the entry itself has not yet been agreed, and the specific conditions remain the subject of negotiations. zurnal.pravda.sk ↗
Slovan's interest has already been discussed on at least two previous occasions. Former director of the Czech Extraliga Josef Řezníček stated that such a step could make sporting sense, but the quality of the offer and the economic conditions would be decisive. According to statements made so far, any expansion of the league would therefore not be automatic. idnes.cz ↗
Slovan is expected to present the Czech clubs with its vision for participation and arguments as to why its admission could benefit the competition. It remains unclear in what format it might compete, or whether it would have to leave the Slovak Extraliga. tnlive.sk (Markíza) ↗
The upcoming negotiations may show whether the interest moves from informal discussions to formal consideration of the proposal. No details are yet known about the Czech side's final decision. zurnal.pravda.sk ↗
