Double bassist Tomáš Baroš debuts with the album First Call, unveils single Slow River Waltz

Slovak double bassist Tomáš Baroš, known to jazz fans mainly as a sideman to notable names on both the domestic and international scene, is presenting his own debut after more than twenty years on stage. The album carries the confident title First Call and will be released on vinyl on October 2. JazzPort ↗

On it, Baroš steps into the role of bandleader and composer for the first time. The debut author recording brings seven original compositions, which he recorded with musicians from Europe and the United States. Among the guests are New York guitarist Max Light, Catalan saxophonist Gianni Gagliardi, and Polish harmonica player Nicholas Patu. JazzPort ↗

The material maps out his career to date. It includes Bass Blues, the very first composition he wrote back during his teenage years, the track Kyoto, which came about while preparing for a tour of Japan, and Gentle Kind of Brave, dedicated to the daughter of a close friend. JazzPort ↗

The first single, Slow River Waltz, was released on September 11 and has since been accompanied by a music video. The melancholic track works as a soundtrack to an autumn walk through Prague and follows Baroš and his band on the day of their performance at Prague's Jazz Dock club. The debut is being released by Brno-based Bivak Records. Full Moon ↗
