Babiš wants postponement of ETS2 emission allowances, held talks in Bratislava
According to Babiš, the introduction of ETS2 poses a risk to the refining industry. The system is meant to extend emissions trading to also cover building heating and road transport. The Czech prime minister therefore drew attention to the possible consequences for fuel prices and the operation of refineries in Europe. forum24.cz ↗
In Bratislava, Babiš was to hold talks with representatives of other V4 countries. The meeting took place at a time when the region's countries are examining the impacts of European energy and climate policy on industry, households, and transport. zpravy.aktualne.cz ↗
The visit also included a meeting at the Slovak embassy in Prague, where Babiš, Deputy Prime Minister Tomio Okamura, and Minister Petr Macinka met. The three discussed relations between Czechia and Slovakia and emphasized their importance. zpravy.aktualne.cz ↗
Further progress on ETS2 will depend on negotiations among European Union member states. The Czech government will seek to change the deadline or conditions of the system if it believes there is a risk of significant increases in energy and fuel prices or a weakening of European industry. seznamzpravy.cz ↗
