Brunes decisive on his debut for Sparta, Letná celebrates win over Zlín

Sparta's footballers beat Zlín 3:1 in Friday's rescheduled match of the second round of the Chance League, earning points for the first time in the new season. The Prague club thus responded to their previous defeat in Brno. A significant role in the win was played by Norwegian forward Jonatan Brunes, the club's most expensive signing, who scored the decisive goal on his debut. zpravy.aktualne.cz ↗

Sparta took the lead after a goal by Andrew Irving. At 1:0, Lukáš Haraslín had a chance to extend the lead, but failed to convert a penalty. After the break, Zlín managed to equalize, and the home side found themselves under pressure for several minutes. The match was ultimately decided by Brunes, who was active from the start, pressed the opponent's build-up play, and tried to direct the whole team's pressing. idnes.cz ↗

After his goal, the Letná stands took up the celebration known from Norwegian fans at the summer World Championship. Supporters behind the goal raised their arms and, amid loud chanting, imitated the Vikings' rowing motion. Brunes, also referred to as Erling Haaland's cousin, admitted after the match that the Norwegian striker had already texted him. zpravy.aktualne.cz ↗

The win gave Sparta a calmer starting position ahead of next week, when they face their first match in the fight for the Champions League. Nevertheless, according to reactions, the performance against Zlín did not remove all doubts, since the home side once again failed to use their chances to settle the match earlier and had to turn the game back in their favor after the visitors equalized. isport.cz ↗
