ŠK Slovan Bratislava will enter the new Champions League season on Tuesday with a 2nd qualifying round match against the Georgian team Iberia 1999 Tbilisi. The Slovak champion will make its competitive debut under the leadership of Yaya Touré, with the duel being played at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium, which has a capacity of 27,000 spectators. teraz.sk ↗
Shortly before the start of the European qualification, the club strengthened its squad with 29-year-old Panamanian midfielder Cristian Martínez. According to available information, he is a 69-time capped Panama international who also appeared at the World Cup. Martínez signed a three-year contract with Slovan. He is a product of the Panamanian club Chorrillo, where Cesar Blackman also started out. sport.sk ↗
Slovan is also dealing with a significant absence in attack. Against Iberia 1999 Tbilisi, the team will have to do without Tigran Barseghjan, a 32-year-old Armenian forward. Ahead of the match, the team was also dealing with changes following the summer overhaul of the coaching staff and squad, including the use of English in the locker room. sport.sk ↗
The Bratislava club already knows its possible continuation in European cup competition. If it advances past Iberia 1999 Tbilisi, it will continue into the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League. If it fails to advance, it will face the loser of the tie between Larne FC and Crvena Zvezda Belgrade in the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa League. SITA ↗
