Turkey proposes new negotiations between Ukraine and Russia
The proposal emerged after Saturday evening's meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Ukrainian side. Istanbul could thus once again host negotiations aimed at finding ways to end the war in Ukraine.
According to information from the meeting, Zelenskyy expressed willingness to negotiate directly with Putin. Turkey has in the past sought to mediate contacts between Kyiv and Moscow, and its representatives continue to support the continuation of diplomatic negotiations.
Yuri Ushakov, the Russian president's foreign policy adviser, stated that Putin would accept a phone call from Zelenskyy. He was responding to a question on whether the Russian president is ready to communicate with the Ukrainian leader. Onet Wiadomosci ↗
It is not yet known when the new negotiations might take place or whether the presidents of both countries will take part. However, Turkey's proposal creates an opening for restoring direct political contact between Moscow and Kyiv.
