FC Schalke 04 surprisingly drew 0:0 with Bayern Munich on Saturday, September 5 in Gelsenkirchen. The Bundesliga newcomer resisted the big favorite on its return to the elite and secured a point after a fighting performance that the home fans welcomed almost as a victory. tnlive.sk (Markíza) ↗
Bayern had a clear advantage, but failed to make an impression against Schalke's organized defense and goalkeeper Loris Karius. The Munich team took the field without several stars in the starting lineup, as Harry Kane and Michael Olise started on the bench. Jamal Musiala returned to the lineup at the same time, but even his return did not bring the champions a winning goal. Tagesspiegel ↗
For Schalke, it was a successful return to the Bundesliga home environment after more than three years. The club also broke an unfavorable streak against Bayern and secured their first point against them since 2017. The draw also mattered for the standings, as Bayern failed to occupy first place in the Bundesliga for the first time after 67 rounds. Deutschlandfunk ↗
The match was also accompanied by events off the pitch. There was reportedly an incident between fans before the match, and some Bayern supporters ultimately did not make it into the stadium. Schalke takes encouragement from the result in their fight for survival, while Bayern will seek a response after their first significant stumble of the league season. Spiegel.de ↗
