Police launch nationwide inspection of taxi services

The Police Force began a nationwide inspection of taxi services on Tuesday, October 6. Officers are checking driving safety, drivers' authorization to operate taxi service vehicles, and compliance with road traffic rules in all regions of Slovakia. zurnal.pravda.sk ↗

The inspection applies to both classic taxi services and vehicles operating through digital platforms. Police are checking drivers' documents, authorizations to perform taxi services, and the technical condition of vehicles. Part of the inspections also involves determining whether drivers consumed alcohol or other intoxicating substances before or during a ride. zive.sk ↗

Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok stated that the reason for the action is passengers' complaints and concerns. According to him, the inspections should help increase the safety of people using taxi services. The minister announced the start of the action at Bratislava's Milan Rastislav Štefánik Airport. hnonline.sk ↗

Between 2022 and 2025, taxi drivers caused more than 100 traffic accidents. These accidents killed six people and left another 15 with serious injuries. Police also report a significant increase in the number of taxi drivers. Since 2023, approximately 19,000 have been added. SITA ↗

The nationwide inspection is intended to verify whether both drivers and taxi service operators meet the legal requirements, and whether the vehicles pose no risk to passengers. The Police Force has not yet announced a final deadline or the results of the action. STVR (Spravy) ↗
