The purchase is meant to expand the number of aircraft that the US Department of Defense obtains from the arms manufacturer Lockheed Martin. The plan covers a period of ten years and envisages the delivery of more than eight hundred fighter jets. svet.sme.sk ↗
The F-35s are part of a long-term program of the US Department of Defense. The new plan represents a significant continuation of aircraft procurement from Lockheed Martin, which is their manufacturer.
The Pentagon currently plans to purchase at least 850 aircraft. The final number may be higher, since the announcement refers to a minimum order volume. No further details were given about the value of the contract or the exact delivery schedule.
Implementation of the plan will take place over the next decade. The scope of the planned purchase would also place the contract among the largest deals associated with the F-35 program.
