Social Distortion formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California, and Ness is the only member who has stayed with the band since the beginning. Their fusion of punk with rockabilly and country became a blueprint for a whole generation of American bands, and Ness's voice and tattooed iconography are among the most recognizable in the genre.
