Coalition strikes Houthis in Hodeidah, Houthis report Aramco attack

The Saudi-led coalition announced on Monday strikes on military targets of the Yemeni Houthi rebels in the port city of Hodeidah. The strikes took place at a time when the Houthis reported their own missile and drone attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia. aktuality.sk ↗

The Houthis said they hit Riyadh's international airport, an refinery of the energy company Aramco, and several other locations in the south of the kingdom. Reports of attacks on Riyadh were accompanied by information about explosions in the Saudi capital. France24 ↗

The extent of the damage or any casualties from the attacks were not immediately confirmed. The Houthis are backed by Iran and have repeatedly attacked targets in Saudi Arabia in the past. Riyadh leads a military coalition that is fighting the Houthis in Yemen.

In response to the attacks, Turkey and Pakistan are reportedly preparing to send troops to Saudi Arabia to support local forces. Information about their numbers or specific tasks has not yet been published. Tagesschau ↗

The development increases tension between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, whose conflict centers mainly on Yemen and cross-border attacks. The next steps will depend on the scale of military operations in Hodeidah and on whether attacks on Saudi targets are repeated.
