England beat Panama 2:0 at the 2026 World Cup in East Rutherford and won Group L unbeaten. The result was decided by Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane, who scored in the second half after more than an hour of waiting for the first goal. Spiegel.de ↗
Panama resisted the favorites for a long time, and the English team only asserted itself more clearly after the break. Bellingham opened the scoring in the 62nd minute following a corner kick from Bukayo Saka. Shortly after, Kane added a second goal, definitively confirming England's progression to the tournament's best 32 teams from first place in the group. sport.sk ↗
With this goal, Kane pulled clear at the top of England's all-time World Cup scoring table, surpassing Gary Lineker's record. The win also concluded England's group stage after a previous victory over Croatia and a goalless draw with Ghana. zpravy.aktualne.cz ↗
Despite the progression, England's performance also raised questions. Thomas Tuchel's team was defensively solid, but struggled for a long time to break down Panama, and it was only a strong spell in the second half that decided the match. Panama bid farewell to the tournament without a point and without a goal scored. England will need a more convincing performance in the next phase if they want to confirm their ambitions at the World Championship. BBC News ↗
