Manchester City won Sunday's derby at Manchester United 1:0. The only goal of the match was scored by Erling Haaland, who decided the visitors' triumph despite City playing with a numerical disadvantage from the 23rd minute following Phil Foden's sending-off. sport.sk ↗
Manchester United failed to make use of a power play lasting more than an hour and did not score at home at Old Trafford. City maintained its lead even in the closing stages of the match, when, according to the Italian daily, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma produced the decisive saves. La Repubblica ↗
Haaland's goal, however, sparked significant controversy. Joško Gvardiol crossed from the left side, Enzo Fernández attempted to reach the ball but failed, and the Norwegian striker subsequently sent it into the net. Pro Ref, the organization representing English football referees, stated that in its view the goal should not have counted. The controversial verdict was also criticized by Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, who was confused by the officials' decision. Der Standard ↗
With the victory, Manchester City maintained its perfect record after four rounds of the Premier League, earning all 12 points. Enzo Maresca's team remains at the top of the table alongside Arsenal. Manchester United, on the other hand, lost the derby despite having a numerical advantage for a substantial part of the match. Le Figaro ↗
