FC Bayern Munich advanced on Wednesday evening to the second round of the German Cup after a 4:1 victory at VfL Osnabrück's stadium. The home second-division club surprised the favorite at the start of the match when, after a long pass and a mistake by Munich's defense, Robin Meißner scored. However, Bayern turned the score around before halftime and after the restart maintained their advance without any significant problems. Deutschlandfunk ↗
Harry Kane was an outstanding player in the match, scoring his first two goals of the new season. For the English striker, it was an important start after two competitive matches without a goal. In the preceding days, negotiations also continued about a possible extension of his contract with Bayern. The club is keen to keep the captain of the English national team for the next period, although the player himself played down expectations of a quick agreement. Tagesspiegel ↗
The Munich players did not field their strongest possible lineup in Osnabrück. Jonas Urbig got playing time in goal instead of Manuel Neuer. Jamal Musiala was not yet in the squad, although his progress after health problems is reportedly favorable and a return to match action is approaching. teraz.sk ↗
Bayern thus handled the opening cup hurdle despite an early stumble. Further developments will show how quickly Musiala returns to the team and whether Kane follows up his goals with his key role in attack as contract negotiations about the future continue. n-tv ↗
