Bulgaria, Bezmer and the collective defence guarantee

NATO secretary general Mark Rutte assured Sofia that an Iranian attack on Bulgaria would be an attack on the whole Alliance. The wording of the guarantee was published by the Bulgarian government, not by NATO — and those same authorities simultaneously denied any direct threat. The reason Bulgaria is in the frame is the American tanker aircraft at Bezmer air base.
