Poitiers je mesto na rieke Clain na západe centrálneho Francúzska, hlavné mesto prefektúry, ktorá je súčasťou departementu Vienne v regióne Nové Akvitánsko. Je známe svojimi malebnými uličkami plnými stredovekých domov postavených v románskom slohu a veľkými historickými udalosťami, ktoré sa tu odohrali. Za starostlivosť o 78 pamiatok patriacich do historického dedičstva Francúzska dostalo mesto ocenenie "Mesto umenia a dejín" udeľované od roku 1985 francúzskym ministerstvom kultúry.
