Na příkopě je jedna z nejvýznamnějších ulic v Praze. Prochází místy bývalého staroměstského hradebního příkopu po hranici Starého a Nového Města severovýchodním směrem z dolního konce Václavského náměstí od Můstku, kde navazuje na ulici 28. října, směrem k náměstí Republiky, do nějž ústí na křižovatce u Prašné brány, Obecního domu a paláce U Hybernů. Bývala jednou z nejfrekventovanějších pražských dopravních tepen, od roku 1985 má částečně charakter městské pěší zóny.
