Users reported widespread problems with Meta's services on the afternoon of Friday, June 12. The outage mainly affected Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, while issues also appeared on other platforms including WhatsApp and Threads. ta3.com ↗
Complaints came in from multiple countries and quickly piled up on social networks as well as on services monitoring the availability of internet platforms. Users mainly described problems with apps loading, websites being unavailable, and logging in. According to reports, the outage began to manifest more significantly after around 3:00 p.m., in some cases around 3:30 p.m. pravda.sk ↗
The Downdetector service recorded thousands of reports of unavailability. For Facebook, according to available reports, the number of complaints after 3:00 p.m. rose above 41,000. The problems were not limited to individual devices or local connections but affected multiple services belonging to Meta. Novy Cas ↗
The scale of the outage suggests a technical problem on the operator's side. At the time the reports were published, no details were available regarding the cause or the expected time of full service restoration. Users therefore had to reckon with limited availability of Meta's largest social and communication platforms. Refresher.sk ↗
