Serbia to Hold Early Elections in the Second Half of October

Early parliamentary elections in Serbia will be held on October 18 or 25. President Aleksandar Vučič announced this Thursday evening in a television address. The elections are thus to take place sooner than originally expected, as according to released information they were planned for December. aktuality.sk ↗

Vučič promised to call early elections a month ago at a party assembly. The announcement comes after anti-government protests that have accompanied the political situation in the country. Foreign news reports on the topic mention Belgrade and Novi Sad as places connected to current events surrounding Serbia's political developments. hnonline.sk ↗

The exact voting date is not yet definitive. The president cited two possible October Sundays, with the decision between October 18 and 25 to determine the specific election date. These are early parliamentary elections meant to decide the new composition of the Serbian parliament. teraz.sk ↗

Serbia is thus heading toward an electoral period already in the fall. Further developments will depend on the confirmation of the final voting date and on how government and opposition political forces respond to the early elections.
