Sparta footballers, following a 3:1 win over Zlín in the rescheduled second round of the Chance League, earned their first league points of the new season while also preparing for the third qualifying round of the Champions League against Lyon. The first leg will be played on Tuesday, August 4, at 20:00 at the epet Arena in Prague. irozhlas.cz ↗
The Prague team responded to their previous setback in Brno with the win. Forward Brunes made a strong impression on his debut, and after the match spoke about the powerful experience with the fans. Coach Brian Priske praised the arrival of new signings Tobias Guddal and Roman Macek after the match, while also admitting he saw some shortcomings in the team's performance. eurofotbal.cz ↗
Sparta also already knows their possible opponents for the next phase of European qualification. If they eliminate France's Lyon in the third qualifying round, they will face the winner of the two-legged tie between Fenerbahçe and Sturm Graz in the final, fourth qualifying round. The draw has thus given the Prague side a clear path toward reaching the Champions League main phase. lidovky.cz ↗
Besides Sparta, the European cup draw also concerned other Czech clubs. For the team from Letná, however, the most immediate task remains the two-legged tie against Lyon, which will decide whether they continue their fight for the Champions League or whether their European journey moves to a different competition. sport.cz ↗
