Slovak hockey players lost to the Canadian team 1:5 at the 2026 World Championship in Switzerland. The match was played in Fribourg and was the sixth appearance of the Slovak national team in the tournament's Group B. For the first two periods, the Slovak team successfully resisted the favored overseas opponent, who is considered one of the title contenders. The decisive moment came in the third period, when Canada scored four goals and dominantly secured victory. Slovakia's only goal came in the second period. teraz.sk ↗ sme.sk ↗
Coach Craig Országh sent the tried-and-tested lineup into the match without changes. Samuel Hlavaj was in goal, backed up by substitute Adam Gajan. Servác Petrovský also returned to the lineup in the position of thirteenth forward. The Slovak national team fielded seven defensemen and thirteen forwards. However, Slovakia's first defeat of the tournament does not mean the end of the fight for a quarterfinal spot. The Slovak hockey players will have to fight for advancement in their next match against Sweden. Despite the defeat, the team showed it can compete with the world's elite, especially during the first two periods of its performance. sport.sk ↗ teraz.sk ↗
