Police Charge Marta Šimečková in the Projekt Fórum Case

The Office for the Fight Against Organized Crime has charged Marta Šimečková, chairwoman of the civic association Projekt Fórum, with the crime of subsidy fraud. Her collaborator and project manager Andrea Puková also faces charges in the case. Police are also prosecuting the civic association itself. STVR (Minúta po minúte) ↗

The investigator is examining suspicions related to state subsidies that Projekt Fórum used to fund its activities. According to media reports, a government audit flagged dozens of invoices that were allegedly claimed twice or three times over as part of the settlement of accounts. The suspicions concern the possible unauthorized drawing of public funds. SITA ↗

Marta Šimečková is the mother of Michal Šimečka, chairman of the opposition party Progresívne Slovensko. After months of investigation, the case entered a new phase in mid-September, when police formally brought charges against specific individuals as well as the association. bratislavak.sk ↗

Businessman Zoroslav Kollár also publicized the news of the charges, presenting a document related to the case. However, according to media reports, Marta Šimečková's lawyer stated that he had no information about the charges. The available information also does not indicate that the accused have admitted guilt. aktuality.sk ↗

The investigation is meant to clarify whether the invoices were indeed claimed repeatedly and whether this caused damage in the drawing of state subsidies. Further steps in the case will depend on the results of the investigation and the subsequent decisions of the law enforcement authorities. Refresher.sk ↗
