An accident involving a Ryanair aircraft, during which a passenger's head became stuck in a broken window last month during a flight from Greek Thessaloniki to German Memmingen, was caused by the detachment of an engine component. This follows from preliminary findings by investigators, according to which debris struck the cabin window during flight. hnonline.sk ↗

The incident occurred on board a Boeing 737. According to available information, a component detached from the engine, with investigators examining fan blade damage in particular. The debris subsequently pierced the cabin window. A sudden pressure change caused a passenger's head and right shoulder to be drawn into the opening created by the damaged window. kultura.pravda.sk ↗

The preliminary report states that the aircraft met the prescribed inspection schedules. The findings therefore point to technical failure of an engine component during flight, rather than neglect of planned maintenance. The case gained attention due to the severity of the situation on board and the circumstances under which the window damage occurred directly in the passenger cabin area.

The investigation will continue with analysis of the damaged engine components and flight circumstances. Final conclusions are to determine the exact cause of the engine component detachment and any recommendations for further inspections of similar aircraft or engines.
