After launching the Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus, and WhatsApp Plus services, Meta faces further pressure in both Europe and the USA. The European Commission has most recently ordered the company to restore free access to competing artificial intelligence assistants to WhatsApp within the Union and maintain it during the investigation. novinky.cz ↗

The measure is to be implemented within five working days. According to available information, Meta had previously demanded a fee from other artificial intelligence providers and intends to appeal the decision. The decision follows a broader dispute over how Meta's services should be governed under the rules of the Digital Markets Act. Index.hu ↗

At the same time, the company is facing new questions about safety and moderation. In the USA, according to published findings, violent threats against politicians on Facebook have sharply increased after Meta relaxed its content moderation rules last year. Regarding Instagram, information has again emerged about a security flaw that reportedly temporarily allowed obtaining phone numbers and email addresses linked to accounts after entering a username. Disputes over data and artificial intelligence are adding to the pressure. Meta is reportedly preparing further use of data collected on Facebook and Instagram users, while it had allegedly been monitoring employees' computer work for AI training purposes. Following protests, it reportedly granted them a limited period without such monitoring. dennikn.sk ↗

The debate is also expanding beyond Meta itself. Germany's ethics council rejected a blanket ban on social networks for minors, while Australia's experience with restrictions for people under 16 shows practical enforcement problems. Developments suggest that Meta's paid features will remain only one part of a broader regulatory and safety dispute. STVR (Spravy) ↗
