Hradec Králové footballers advanced past Norway's Tromsø on Thursday, July 30, into the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa League. After a 1:0 win on the opponent's ground, they also managed the home second leg, winning 3:1, and after 31 years celebrated a home European cup evening with advancement. idnes.cz ↗
The Hradec Králové team entered the second leg with a one-goal lead, secured in the first match by Mick van Buren. Ahead of the home match, coach David Horejš emphasized that the team did not want to merely defend the narrow result. Hradec ultimately decided the match after the break with two headed goals, with Ondřej Mihálik also among the scorers. lidovky.cz ↗
The advancement was seen as a surprise, since Hradec was not considered a favorite against Tromsø. Significant celebrations followed the final whistle at the sold-out FINEP Arena. Horejš called the match the biggest of his career and admitted to strong emotions after the game. sport.cz - hokej ↗
In the next round, the Czech club will face Turkey's Besiktas. For Hradec, this marks a continuation of the return to the European stage, which in the club's context was also linked to memories of the successful cup run 31 years ago. idnes.cz ↗
