British singer Cleo Sol has released her fifth album, Gentlewoman, and the Spanish magazine Rockdelux dedicated an extensive review to it. The record's opening line is "Finally I'm thinking about myself" — and the reviewer admits that for a second it gave him a flicker of hope. Rockdelux ↗
The context, however, is complicated. Cleo Sol has long worked with her husband, producer Dean Josiah Cover, known as Inflo — together they are behind the project Sault and a series of albums that were often released without promotion or interviews. According to the review, Gentlewoman is ultimately another statement in the spirit of "us against the world," but this time without intermediaries: "Finally I'm thinking about myself" means she doesn't need Inflo to speak for her — and that the two of them essentially think the same thing.
