Céline Dion will kick off a series of 16 concerts in Paris on Saturday evening, marking her return to the stage after a six-year break caused by health problems. The performances at the Plénitude arena will run until October 14. Another ten concerts are scheduled for May. Le Monde ↗
Around 30,000 people are expected at the first concert. Fans have traveled from various parts of the world, and interest in the event has also been reflected in hotel occupancy and train ticket sales. Special T-shirts and macarons featuring the Canadian singer's likeness have appeared in Paris.
On Friday evening, nearly 10,000 people gathered at Place de la Bataille-de-Stalingrad for a large karaoke event organized by the mayor of Paris. The event took place the day before the start of the concert series. Ahead of the performances, the singer briefly greeted some fans waiting near her hotel and sang a duet with one young admirer.
The return is generating excitement, but also concerns about the physical demands of the concerts following her health-related break. Dion was last on stage six years ago. Her Paris performances are also considered a major social and economic event. The concert series is expected to bring in more than a billion euros. Le Figaro ↗
In the coming weeks, Paris will be the center of attention for fans of one of the world's most famous singers.
